The History Of SkudpuppetZ Gigs And Gigs To Come

Past Gigs

#1. 14th January 2005, Corran Hall. Oban.

Wasnt the best of gigs. I'd say we probably gave the best performance there, but still. Our performance wasnt to die for. On stage i (drummer) couldnt hear either chris's bass or Johny's guitar. The drum set that was set up there was good, but the way it was set up wasnt. The mic setup for the drums was a bit poor too and also, the drums kept sliding away from me, and my double bass pedal fell apart. Apart from that, it was still really fun. Couldnt have been that bad on the hall floor as we were made sign autographs after too. Oh yeh, someone hijacked Chris's bottle of water. Were gonna track him/her down and call him a spam bag.

#2. 24th March 2005, The Vale. Glasgow.

Was a great gig. Our best live performance yet. Weve only had two. Everything went well. The crowd seemed to enjoy it. Id say we got quite a good applause considering the size and capacity of the hall we were giging. Can't wait to gig there again.

#3. 29th April 2005. The Vale, Glasgow.

This was yet another great gig. I think it could have been a better group performance than last time. Cheif Chris and Maddo Johno played amazing and sung great. I however feel as if i let them down a little. There was so much room for improvement in my performance. My ex broke up with me about an hour or so before we went on stage, so that was on my mind while i was playing. I wasnt satisfied with my performance. Sorry.

(Stop yer whining...)

#4. 19th May 2005. Corran Hall, Oban.

This gig went excellent. It was a battle of bands. Guess where we came? No where. Thats right. Not 1st, not 2nd, and not 3rd. We still played well tho. The ex keyboarder for ozzy osbourne was there. He was one of the judges. (Well he said he was Ozzy's keyboad player but he was probably talkin guff). So we had fun...for about 15mins on stage....not even playing our full set.....BUT WE SOLD 15 COPYS OF OUR DEMO!....Which means people must have thought we were alright eh? only 15 i know...but this is oban...there aint that many people there to begin with.

#5.10th June 2005, The Vale. Glasgow.

Another Great gig. John and Chris playing great. I had a drum solo. Crowd seemed to like it. Im sure i could hear them shouting as i was beating the shit out of the kit. The last song of the set, had only been writen a few weeks ago. The lyrics for it were only writen a few hours before the gig. Chris forgot them when he was on stage. I dont blame him. It still sounded fantastic. Sooo...for the size of the croud (which wasnt very big) we got a good response.

#6. 30th June 2005, Rockers. Glasgow.

Hey, was great to play in a new pub. I dont know if our performance was to great though. I suppose we played alright, as we got a half decent response from the crowd. The first half of the set was really scetchy. I think we started to tighten up, nearer the end though. The sound in the pub wasnt to great, i feel it was lacking power. I couldnt really hear a good level of sound. Bass wasnt loud enough. What made things worse is that Chris managed to unplug his guitar near the end of the last song. Silly cookie. (That was intentional...) Oh well, everyone has their off nights. On to the next gig.

#7. 12th August 2005, Mossfield Rugby Club. Oban.

I guess that gig was alright. The crowd seemed to enjoy our set, they got quite wild. They tore apart the cuddly toys that we threw at them though. (Fuckin animals). That was pretty much expected but they could have kept some at least. Haha. Well, i drummer of Zee Skuds, couldnt hear a thing. This thing where i cant hear the rest of the band at gigs is becoming a regular thing. Maybe its time we invested in our own PA setup. Well yeh, i felt that i played shite, because i was basicaly drumming from memory...I could only hear a slight distant rumble of the bass. Hehe, gave away more demo's..hope they like what they hear on them. Thanks to everyone who showed up, and a special thanks to those of you who got into the pit.

#8. 14th September 2005, Bar Bliss. Kirkintilloch.

No a bad gig considering the small crowd. We seemed to go down well. Except there was this one old dude who, im guessin here, werent too keen on the whole punk thing. Oh well, fuck him. Miserable old cunt... Gained a good contact fae King Tut's and will be back in Kirky at Club Go very soon. Woohoo!!!

#9. 15th September 2005, Best Bar None. Stirling.

Well now, what can i say. Some pratt decided to draft us into an indie night so as you can imagine we went down like a fuckin lead balloon. Mind you, we were lucky to get the chance to play at all. By the time the third band came off the pub was gettin ready to close an we had to crank the volume down coz of the neighbours! Which of course we didn't. So firm favorites there then. I've had better gigz...

#10. 29th September 2005, Firkins. Falkirk.

Pretty good wee gig. Despite the shite day i, (Chris), was having. (Took 2 fuckin hours to find Falkirk and almost got killed twice...) Dodgey mics, dodgey extensions, (cheerz Asda), and a misterious signal problem with the bass cab threatened to fuck up the whole thing but we pulled off a good gig, despite playin a tad slower than usual. Plenty of moshing and drunken dancin, (thats right. Apparently you can dance to our music), was had, and plenty of beer was swallied. Mmmmm. Beer. Cheerz fae all those who supported us, you know who you are. Skudpuppetz will be back in Falkirk soon...

#11. 4th October 2005, 13th Note. Glasgow.

Ah.... The joyz of playing in a reinforced bunker. Good gig all round. Cheerz to Egg In A Tree fae makin up numberz an puttin on a good show. It's just like the Vale, only without that dodgey lookin clifftop-like stage  The sound guy did a pretty good job too. Although we coulduv shifted a few more cd's. C'MON, THEY'RE FREE. TAKE ONE!!! Um...blah, blah blah, bla-blah blah. Blah. That's bout it. We'll be back...

#12. 28th October 2005, The Vale. Glasgow.

AAAAAAhhhhh. It's good to be back. Tonight was SkudpuppetZ first gig as a four-piece and despite lead guitarist Stu only joinin the band 3 hours previously, we seemed to go down well. Not only were we promoted to Friday night but also second on the bill. Thats a step up. And there were also people to play to. Nice. Show opener 3 Steps Back were tight and tuneful, playin a good selection of Livy based punk rock. Good show guyz, hopefully we can work with youz again soon. Meanwhile Headliners UK Deathcharge did a pretty good job of layin waste to the stage. Oi Oi!!! Plenty of SkudpuppetZ demoz changed hands and cheerz to 3 Steps Back for buyin tickets to our Catty gig. It's gonna be a great night. Awesome.

#13. 10th November 2005, Behind The Wall. Falkirk.

Um......... Well it was better than Best Bar None. Unfortunately punk rock venues are becoming more and more scarce these days... Still, we put on a good show. Cheers to 12 pointless days, who put on a good performance. An a big thanx to the sound guy faor puttin up wit us. Mind you, he'd probably knocked back a shit load before we arrived so wasn't really that fussed. It is 85 pence a pint after all.

#14. 14th November 2005, The Attic. Glasgow.

Um......shite. The venue and staff were nice enough but the lack of sound/engineers didn't help. The other bands played a good set but this was indie night all over again and the audience werent havin any of it. I mean, who listens to punk anyways? Thank fuck for the Cathoose. Things should be a little more interesting...

#15. 24th November 2005, The Cathouse. Glasgow.

Not bad. Not exactly our best performance but not the worsr either. Got a good crowd response and shifted plenty of cd's but the set coulduv done with bein a bit more organised and new song Banknock Lemmy didn't really go the way we planned it. Still, it's only a couple of days old. Cheers to everyone who supported us and came to support us, (Im not gonna mention everyone but you know who you are an we're always greatful. Oh, Nick you owe Chris's sister a shitload of fags by the way...) Well done to the other bands for puttin on a good show an to the stagecrew for a job well done. And a big FUCK YOU to all the miserable moody bastards that are the Cathouse door staff. Lighten the fuck up. Cheers.

#16. 23rd December 2005, Corran Hall. Oban.

Hmmm. Quiet. Some might say.....too quiet. It seems more often than not the band are more organised than the gigz. Still, everyone had fun. All the bands played well. I think not lettin us take bottled water into the building was a really shady way to make us buy theirs though...

#17. 21st February 2006, Whistle Binkies. Edinburgh.

Shite. Pure grade A shite. I've never been kicked out a venue for the music i play. That is of course until we went to this trendy poof pub. Our first gig of 2006 & the first in the capital. We got through the first song and the kick drum skin tore which was a bit unfortunate. But we were seemingly given the go ahead to play on, managed a second song, then were told to leave. Wankers! Stu gave the engineer the finger, not suprisingly, which led to abusive threats from the owner followed by a near brawl between the band and the bar staff. We were subsequently barred. So a warning to all punk bands who go to Edinburgh to gig: stay away from this place coz you'll more than likely be told just to fuck off anyways...

#18. 24th February 2006, Reilly's Bar. Coatbridge.

Pretty good wee gig. Started off as a bit of a shambles. The so called punk night/battle of the bands audition fell through without us knowin and we turned up to find a near empty pub and one other band who played rock covers. Despite the small crowd though, everyone enjoyed the set an we had a great time. Got off to a shakey start but the set was tight an tuneful. Must be somethin they put in the beer. The staff were excellent and a big thanx from Stu for the free cider. Thanx also to John and his gf for stayin to watch us. Roll on Saint Paddy's day!

#19. 8th March 2006, The Vale. Glasgow.

Magic. Aye it was pretty good as always. Teamed up with the ever tuneful 3 Steps Back who provided some punk rock relief from the emo. Which wasn't too bad. No one laughed at my emo joke though... Look forward to a brand new record as of the 13th. Woo hoo!!

#20. 17th March 2006, Home Centre. Airdrie.

Coulduv bin worse i guess. At least we didn'r get kicked off after one song.... it was more like four. Apparently fortunes favoured the local bands. When i say 'fortunes' i mean the sound crew, who were shite. I dunno if the 'engineer' had any idea what he was really doing in the first place. He even managed to blow up an amp during the soundcheck, which ran on into the gig. Just another one of these venues where someone tells you one thing while another tells you something totally different.

Needless to say, the sound was aweful. Either the engineer was crap or he was takin the piss. Cree couldn't hear anything through the poxy monitors so that was our timin away tae fuck. Call me crazy, but they coulduv....i dunno....turned the drums down!? They mustuv been crankin out twice the dB of an airliner just for that and none of the backline could cope. Apparently the next two bands, again not local, were cut short. The last one, (the Flykicks), through a wobbler an kicked the amps and mic stands off the stage. Rock on.

Anyways it was for charity so at least the whole thing made plenty of money. Cheers to all those who enjoyeed our set and took a cd. And thanks to John for arrangin us to be on the bill. Peace...

#21. 30th March 2006, Firkins. Falkirk.

Wow. A good gig. Makes a change. This is one of the few places where we don't get stuff thrown at us. Although there was some airborn pizza/kebab at one point but it wasn't directed at us. Cheers to everyone who stayed to watch and to the bar staff for puttin up with us...again. And a big fuck yeh to 3 Steps Back (and the magic bus full of people). They was awesome. Im sure we'll be back in Falkirk again soon. (By then we will have some more ska choons im sure...)

#22. 6th April 2006, Rockers. Glasgow.

Inevitably better than our last outing at Rockers. The set time may have been shorter but we went on regardless an blasted out 9 or so tracks in 20 warpspeed punk minutes, much to the delight of the crowd and the other bands, (except the wee bunch of emo kids in the corner). Cheers to all those who turned up to see us, we're always greatful, and to all those already there who stayed to watch. It was a pretty good wee gig. Despite broken strings and a bit of out-of-tune-ness. (Hope your gig on the 13th went well Andy). And so it was off to Barfly...

#23. 23rd April 2006, Barfly. Glasgow.

Um..... Good question. Turns out the promotions folk who set the gig up gave the venue staff and all the bands the same wrong information then disappeared off the face of the planet. Needless to say, no one turned up wi a drumkit. The gig was cancelled leavin everyone outta pocket and a tad annoyed. Nice of the promotions duo to show face. Hopefully we'll be back at the 'Fly in the next couple o months...

#24. 22nd May 2006, The Attic. Glasgow.

Guess it was just like any other Attic gig, a bit of a farce. Cables were dodgy, speakers kept blowin up, and soundchecks over ran by about an hour and a half. Big thanx to Lofi Rehearsals for lendin us some cables or we all woulduv bin up the skank.

#25. 24th May 2006, The Attic. Glasgow.

Ah the Attic. The attic the attic the attic. They'll be chargin us rent pretty soon. Notably better than Monday but still a bit of a farce. Seems an indie night was booked the same night as the punk night. There were bands crawling outta the woodwork. Every 10 minutes or so. Aonther band. Anyways afer a.... wait for it... 5 hour soundcheck the number of bands was whittled down to 5. Outta like...40 or somethin. The FB 35's were awesome. So were ska quintet Laffin. Ma hat also proved to be very popular. And so we go back to Rockers..... again..

#26. 30th May 2006, Rockers. Glasgow.

Hmmm. No a bad wee gig. Being hammered before goin on stage was probably no a good idea though. There were instances when i thought someone was gonna fall on an amp or somethin.. FB 35'S were magic. Again, so were Twisted Rainbow. The provoked SL were no bad but we didn't really hang around to watch the whole set. Anyways. Oban next. We're fuckin up another emo night...

#27. 15th August 2006, The 13th Note. Glasgow.

Aye so the Oban gig never really happened. Actually quite a few gigs never happened, including 4PM at Rockers. Bit shit. This one went ahead though. Line up: 3 Steps Back, FB 35's, Twisted Rainbow & the Skudiez. The FB 35's were shit hot. Except Wullie, who didn't know where he really wis... Gud performances from all the bands. Definatelly the best gig of the year so far. Someone remind me tae get a trailer for that fuckin amp....

#28. 24th August 2006, The Vale. Glasgow.

Wis awright. We've done better gigs there. Out front apparently sounded cool but the stage setup wis shagged. In ma opinion. The sound guy wis quite funny though. He wis that fucked he didn't really know wot he wis doin. Mind you, wearing shades in the dark'll no help. A couple of gud performances from Japlaster, (formaly Wrecked Him), & Captain Kate rounded off an awright night. With beer.

#29. 9th September 2006, Innellan Hall. Dunoon.

Suprisingly gud. The Dunoon folk are shit hot. Supportin Kickin Buckets & Call Me Charlie in a wee village hall in the middle of nowhere, miles fae any off licence. Bastart. Twas a night of throwin beer outta windows, hijackin buses, ransackin toilets and crashin in strangers houses. Jus the usual. Cheers tae Aaron for gettin us the gig. We'll be lookin forward tae comin back.

#30. 11th September 2006, Bannermans. Edinburgh.

Well it wis better than our last outing tae the capital. At least we got tae play a whole set. An we didn't get barred. Got a gud reception fae those who were there tae watch and the band wis pretty tight, although we wis all knackered. Won't be hurryin back tho, Edinburgh's gotta be the most expensive place on earth. Am suprised they don't have a pavement tax. Cheers to Waverley Station staff as well for no acceptin SPT zonecards an almost strandin Cree. That wis really gud of yi's. The whole place costs too much. It's cheaper tae get tae Dunoon....

#31. 12th October 2006, Rockers. Glasgow

Lots of emo, lots of cross-dressin fae Cree and Andy Pawz. Oh, and the pub ran out of lager. A mean, is that even legal? Twas a battle of the bands night. Dinnae win anything though. Again. Some gud ska thought fae The Hostiles, and some no so gud pop punk pish. Belter.

#32. 22nd October 2006, The Night Spot. Livingston.

Supporting 3 Steps Back in the grounds of Livengston F.C. Played a great show despite gettin lost then turnin up over an hour late. Best band of the night had tae be Fat Ben & The Looters. Gud wholesome punk rawk. Yass. Closely followed by....McDonalds at midnight. Yi had tae see Cocks wedgie, twas extreme style. Oh yes, there was blood...

#33. 27th October 2006, Corran Halls. Oban.

Two hours late, (waitin for Cree tae eat his dinner), and some naff sound but plenty of autographs were signed. Cocks banbase in Oban grew fae 0 to bout 500 in the space of 10 minutes. He even gave away his socks. Always a gud crowd up there. Jus don't get the 'cheese in burger' fae Nories - unless yi wanna drown in grease. Finished off the night campin in the pissin rain in the middle of nowhere, tryin tae set up a tent in the dark while Cree sets various things on fire wi half a gallon of oil an some naked flame... Coldest night on record.
